4 arrested for Austria attack plot on guru
July 29: The Austrian police has arrested four Indian men suspected of planning an attack that could be linked to a deadly shooting at a gurdwara in Vienna in 2009, the interior ministry said on Thursday. The men were arrested on Wednesday during a lecture given by a guru at the gurdwara in Oberwaltersdorf, south of Vienna.
The national security and counter-terrorism bureau suspected them of planning an attack on the gathering, which had attracted some 800 faithful, the daily Kurier wrote. The four are thought to belong to the Khalistan Zindabad Force, a separatist group seeking the creation of agurdwara in Punjab. Prosecution spokeswoman Michaela Schnell noted that a link with the attack at the Vienna gurdwara in May 2009, in which a visiting guru was killed, “cannot be ruled out.”
