31 militants killed in Afghanistan
Afghan and Nato-led troops have eliminated 31 militants and captured the Taliban district chief in Helmand province of Afghanistan, an official spokesman said on Thursday.
“Afghan and international security forces captured the Taliban district chief of Now Zad district and killed at least 31 insurgents during an operation in remote Baghran district in northern Helmand province on Wednesday night,” Xinhua quoted the spokesman of the International Security Assistance Force as saying.

Pak hands over Indian prisoner list
Islamabad, July 1: Pakistan on Thursday handed over a list of Indian prisoners in Pakistan to India, in line with an agreement on consular access between the two countries.
A statement from the foreign office said the lists were handed over the list of Indian prisoners in Pakistan to the Indian high commission in Islamabad, reports our Pakistan correspondent. The lists have been handed over according to the agreement on consular access signed between Pakistan and India on May 21, 2008, the statement said.

Nepal ‘living goddess’ gets a pay hike
Kathmandu, July 1: Nepal has increased the monthly stipend it gives its “living goddess” by a quarter, a top official said, to help the schoolgirl revered by thousands of Hindus and Buddhists beat double-digit inflation.
The girl called Kumari is considered holy and is an attraction for the many tourists. “The government has increased the monthly allowance of Kumari from 6,000 rupees to 7,500 rup-ees,” said Mod Raj Dotel, the top bureaucrat at the culture ministry.

Pak govt mulls curbs on media
Islamabad, July 1: The Pakistan government is considering to impose curbs on media through a proposed legislation.
The government has introduced a bill in Parliament which, if passed, would usher in harsher regulations for broadcasters and online organisations, reports our Pakistan correspondent.
The bill seeks to amend a law enforced by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, in a bid to regulate parts of the media.
