27 Taliban militants surrender in Afghanistan
Twenty-seven Taliban militants surrendered before government authorities in Afghanistan on Sunday, Xinhua reported.
According to a top provincial official, a seven-member group of Taliban militants surrendered in Herat province, some 640 km west of capital city Kabul.
The Taliban fighters, including their commander Mullah Ghulam Sakhi, renounced violence and joined the government in the province's Guzara district on Sunday morning, said acting provincial governor Aseeluddin Jami.
In a similar development, some 20 Taliban fighters surrendered to the government in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday, said a press release issued by the provincial administration.
