16 killed in two blasts in South Afghanistan
At least 16 people were killed in two separate bomb blasts in Afghanistan on Saturday, Xinhua reported quoting officials.
Fifteen people, including eight children, were killed in a roadside blast which hit a bus in the Southern Kandhar province early on Saturday, the Afghanistan interior ministry said.
“The bloody incident occurred at around 10.00 am. Local time on Saturday when a mini-bus touched off a roadside bomb in Arghandab district. As a result, 15 civilians — eight children, four women and three men — were killed and one woman was wounded,” Afghanistan’s interior ministry said in a statement. In another incident, at least one person was killed when a powerful blast rocked the Ghazni province.
“I confirm that a passerby was killed and four school children were injured in the blast,” provincial police chief Zarawar Zahid told Xinhua. A local official, who declined to be identified, said the blast happened at around 12.30 pm. Local time close to a military base of Afghan and Nato-led troops. Security forces cordoned off the blast site.
