1,110.5-pound meatball created in Columbus sets world record
The attempt to create 2011’s world record for a giant meatball at the Columbus Italian Club’s meatball project, resulted in a record breaking meatball weighing 1,110.5 pounds.
The giant meatball, which started at 1,492 pounds was cooked in a specially built oven for three days at an internal temperature of 155 degrees, has broken the old record of 749.57 pounds that was set in 2010 in Germany.
“We’re ecstatic,” The Columbus Dispatch quoted Vic Hipsley, sponsorship chairman of the project as saying.
“Not only did we beat the record, we shattered the record,” he stated.
The project was thoroughly videotaped and documented for submission to Guinness World Records.
Only a few designated people also got to taste the meatball, which couldn’t be widely distributed due to lack of refrigeration while it is on display.
