Yuvraj battles cancer in US, out 6 months
Yuvraj Singh has been diagnosed with cancer, and is now undergoing chemotherapy in Boston. The cricketer hasn’t played competitively since the home series against the West Indies in November, when a tumour on his lung was diagnosed as non-malignant. His physiotherapist confirmed Sunday the tumour was cancerous, but curable.
“It’s Stage 1 cancer, so there’s no long-term danger to Yuvraj. It’s absolutely curable,” physio Jatin Chaudhary told this newspaper on Sunday. “The malignant tumour is on his left lung, between the heart and the food pipe.”
Dr Chaudhary said the tumour was detected as cancerous towards the end of November, after initial tests in October indicated it was benign. Yuvraj was advised to undergo chemotherapy to cure the disease. He reached the US last month, after which the treatment began. Yuvraj is likely to be out of action for the next six months.
