YSRC not to back UPA after polls
Hyderabad: The YSRC has changed its policy on national politics. It has decided not to support the NDA-led BJP or the UPA-led Congress. Earlier, YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and its honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi had announced that their party will support the UPA-led Congress if necessary, after the next general elections.
Jagan had also said that the YSRC will also join the Union Cabinet and is likely to get important portfolios. Jagan’s statement created a controversy and it became a weapon in the hands of the Telugu Desam. It started a campaign that the Congress and the YSR Congress are one and the same. TD had named the parties as “Talli Congress and Pilla Congress”.
YSRC spokesperson Ambati Ramababu said that the party has taken a decision not to support the NDA or UPA after the next general elections. He said if there is a Third Front their party will extend support, otherwise they will sit in the Opposition.
The reasons for the sudden change of YSRC policy is the Telangana issue. The YSRC is indirectly opposing the state’s bifurcation. All its MLAs and MPs have resigned their posts criticising the unilateral attitude of the Congress in bifurcating the state.
YSRC is the only party whose MLAs and MPs have resigned in toto over the bifurcation. “How can we support the Congress when it has jailed our president?” asked Rambabu. Another reason is the invitation from Mamata Benerji to join the third alternative after the next elections.
Mamata's invitation also made the YSRC leadership rethink its stand at national politics.
