The girl, who was residing along with her mother at an old-age home in Ram Nagar here, had gone to attend a service at the Baptist Church in YMCA in Narayanaguda yesterday, police said.
Venkataiah picked up the victim from near the church and took her to his office and raped her in the cellar there. Since she knew him from before, the victim did not suspect of his intentions, they said.
The accused, however, panicked after the girl started bleeding profusely. He then tried to admit her in a nearby private hospital but it refused to oblige following which he admitted her to a government maternity hospital near Nayapul.
Besides TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and BJP state chief G. Kishan Reddy, who visited the hospital and demanded stringent action against the culprit, various women organisations also staged protests in different parts of the city.
