You can kill the assaulter: Dinesh

Hyderabad: Director general of police V. Dinesh Reddy said on Monday that as part of self-defence, a woman can even kill a person, who tries to rape or assault her. “When there is a threat that you are going to get raped and killed, you can kill the offender. We will write off the case,” Mr Reddy said in an interaction with women IT employees at Madhapur.
He assured the audience that the city police would give top priority to the safety of women professionals working in the IT hubs of the city and assured them that the state police was serious about tackling crime against woman.
The police chief said Cyberabad police have taken many innovative measures to ensure the safety of wo-men working in IT areas in Gachibowli and Madhapur.
“Cyberabad police has installed a total of 47 CCTV cameras covering all vital places, and more cameras will be installed in a week. We are going to install 2,500 such cameras in both Cyberabad and Hyderabad, which will cover the entire city,” Mr. Reddy said.
Cops plan call centre to help women:
Responding to the concerns raised on transportation at an interaction with women IT employees at Madhapur on Monday, DGP V. Dinesh Reddy said that the Cyberabad police is going to launch a call centre.
“We know that due to shortage of public transportation, many of you use cabs and autorickshaws, which are not safe. So we are starting a call centre to aid women who travel by these means. Any woman can call the centre and give the registration number of the cab or autorickshaw she is getting into. The police will track these vehicles. The call centre will come into existence on April 11,” he said. He also said that the police will introduce a Quick Response Team, to help women who call.
He said that it's important to give maximum punishment for eve-teasing, to check other major crimes against women. "It's only when an offence like eve-teasing is curbed with a firm hand, that major crimes such as rape will decrease," Mr. Reddy said. He added that the city police are tackling eve teasing by surprise patrolling in areas where it is known to occur.
The DGP said street lighting and transportation in IT areas will be improved. "The police will bring these issues to the notice of GHMC authorities and we will find a solution soon," he said.
Mr Reddy also said that he is ready to meet any IT professional in his office regarding security issues.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
