Yeddyurappa keeps BJP guessing on visit to Delhi

Embattled Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is yet to respond to the summons of the BJP top brass to meet them over the issue of his continuance in office in the wake of alleged land scams, keeping the party leadership guessing.
"We can't say whether Mr Yeddyurappa will go to Delhi or not. What are his future plans, we are not in a position to say," sources close to the chief minister told PTI on Monday.
Mr Yeddyurappa, who called off his trip to Delhi on Sunday, has remained incommunicado for top leaders and left for Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh to seek the blessings of Sri Satya Sai Baba, the sources said.
The BJP leadership, which on Sunday summoned Mr Yeddyurappa to meet them, also sent word to him through one of his sons that he should quit by on Monday, the sources said.
The chief minister, however, has remained defiant and had been holding consultations with his close aides on the future course of action.
Mr Yeddyurappa has deputed a team of his loyalists, including home minister R Ashok, a prominent Vokkaliga leader, higher education minister V S Acharya, a probable to replace the chief minister in event of his exit, and some others to Delhi to persuade the party against change in leadership.
He is yet to make up his mind on visiting Delhi to defend himself on the spate of charges of nepotism and land scams levelled by opposition JDS against him and his family.
The party's core group, which met in Delhi on Sunday, had authorised BJP President Nitin Gadkari to take a decision on the issue of Mr Yeddyurappa's continuance.
Mr Yeddyurappa is believed to have warned the party high command that his ouster will cost BJP's first-ever government in the south, for which he had toiled hard.
Officials in chief minister's secretariat are tightlipped over the movements of Mr Yeddyurappa.
Mr Acharya said, "we want Mr Yeddyurappa to continue. There is not alternative to him. The BJP high command has not taken any decision".
The state home minister, who met BJP President Nitin Gadkari, claimed "there is no crisis in Karnataka. Only opposition parties are making this 'hungama'. So I think on Monday or Tuesday, it will be solved by central leaders."
