Yeddy ad thanks his supporters

Toeing Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s pet line, Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa invoked Kannadiga pride to show his detractors that he still holds the command in the state and has substantial influence over the central leadership, which caved in under his pressure.
Mr Yeddyurappa on Friday issued a “heartfelt thanks and appeal” to people of Karnataka after he managed to retain his post, which was under threat after his name cropped up in the alleged land scam in the state.
However, through this appeal which appeared in national dailies on Friday, Mr Yeddyurappa also sent out a message to his detractors.
“It is a fact that there are many detractors with us. Nevertheless, it is certain that nobody derail us from the path of progress,” Mr Yeddyurappa said.
Sources said through this advertisement Mr Yeddyurappa also managed to send a reminder to the BJP central leadership that he has a mass base in the state.
He had remained defiant when the central leadership was trying to make him quit. During his meetings with the central leadership, the Karnataka chief minister, a Lingayat, told the party top brass that any move to remove him will dent the BJP’s strong Lingayat vote bank.
The appeal also mentions the various schemes that the Yeddyurappa government had initiated and even the Central government had praised some schemes.
The Karnataka government was engulfed in political turmoil after reports alleging Mr Yeddyuarppa’s alleged involvement in the land scam appeared.
In the wake of this, the BJP top brass had summoned Mr Yeddyurappa and some of the senior state leaders.
However, Mr Yeddyurappa’s loyalists, including 17 party MPs, informed the BJP top brass that any move to remove him will only ruin the party’s prospects in the state.
However, the argument against Mr Yeddyurappa was that charges of corruption and favouritism against him were taking the sting out of the BJP attack on the UPA government in corruption issues, including the 2G spectrum scam.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
