Women seek to sell kidneys
In a heart-rending tale, six women from Andhra Pradesh, whose husbands have been jailed in Dubai, have petitioned the Chief Minister and the State Human Rights Commission for permission to sell their kidneys and raise funds to pay “blood money” to secure the release of their menfolk.
Following this, the SHRC issued notices to NRI cell principal secretary Ramana Reddy and the Protector of Immigrants to submit reports. The men have been in jail for seven years.
The six migrant construction workers were identified as Shivarathri Mallesh, S. Ravi of Peddur, Sircilla; Nampelli Venkati of Chandurthi, D. Laxman of Konaraepet, S. Hanumanthu of Manala and Syed Kareem of Tarukaskhi Nagar in Karimnagar district. They have been convicted for murdering a Nepali guard.
Their families claim that their husbands have been framed and they did not receive legal aid in the Dubai courts. Five of them were given 24-year sentences and one was jailed for 10 years.
