Women held for marrying, cheating men
The Chennai police arrested Shahanaz Ismail, the woman who had allegedly lured, married and ditched many men in the last few years, in Bengaluru on Saturday night.
A police team picked up Shahanaz from Majestic bus stand in Bengaluru and brought her to Chennai Sunday morning. She was later lodged in Puzhal jail after being remanded in judicial custody.
Shahanaz, 32, was accused of cheating many men by escaping with their valuables after marrying them. The police believe that she had cheated at least five men, who had lodged complaints with various police stations in Chennai, after luring them with marriage.
A native of Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Shahanaz was married and mother of a child before she landed a job in a department store in 2006 in Chennai. “She left Kerala after she had problems with her first husband Sidique in her native place where she had lost her mother while young. According to Shahanaz, her father had died 10 years ago. Ever since she reached Chennai she had been working in a department store, met many men, married some of them and cheated them,” the police said.
She had told some men she was a lawyer and the others that she was preparing for civil service examination.
