Woman kills mother over ‘ties’ with husband
In a gruesome act of revenge, a daughter killed her mother by slitting her throat, as she suspected the 55-year-old mother was having an illicit relation with her husband, police said.
Police said 34-year-old Najeena killed her mother Suhara at around 3 am on Friday at Valiyaparambu near Mala in the district.
Suhara had been living with her two sons in a rented house there for the last two years. Najeena had come over to her mother's place some two months ago after a quarrel with her husband, Abbas of Aduvassery Manakkalath in Ernakulam district.
While staying together, she suspected that her husband and her mother were having an illicit relationship.
Early on Friday morning, Najeena worked out her act of revenge by first locking the door of the rooms of her brothers. She then went to her mother and slit her throat.
Police suspect she used the knife of her brothers, both butchers by profession.
Immediately after the incident, Najeena went to a neighbour’s house and pleaded that she be taken to the hospital as her hand was wounded.
Once in the auto, she asked the driver to stop in front of the police station at Mala. She alighted there, and surrendered herself.
Meanwhile, back at home, her brothers Shakhil and Anob heard their mother moan, and broke open the door to find the woman lying in a pool of blood.
They rushed her to a private hospital at Chalakkudy where she was declared brought dead. A post-mortem found 24 wounds on Suhara’s body.
There could have been a scuffle as Najeena too had wounds on her hand, the police said, adding they suspected Najeena was mentally unstable. The funeral was held at the Muhayudin Juma Masjid Khabarstan later in the day.
