Woman jumps to save herself at Agra hotel
A 25-year-old British woman tourist injured herself as she jumped from the window of her Agra hotel room to escape a sexual molestation attempt early on Tuesday. She was admitted to hospital with fractures in both legs.
She acted swiftly after a man, later identified as hotel owner Sachin Chauhan, tried to forcibly enter her room and allegedly tried to molest her. He was later arrested.
The tourist, a London dentist, who checked into Hotel Agra Mahal in the Idgah area, about 4 km from the Taj Mahal, two days back, told the police she had asked for a wakeup call at 4 am.
Sachin Chauhan knocked at her door at 3.45 am and offered a “free hand massage”, saying it was part of the hotel’s special service, Agra SSP Subhash Chandra Dubey told reporters.
She refused and closed the door.
But he soon came with a security guard and tried to open the door.
The tourist said she locked the room from inside and leapt from the first-floor window to the level below, injuring her leg.
This incident comes days after a Swiss tourist was gangraped in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia region.
