Woman held for hoax call to CM
A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday for making a hoax call warning of bombs placed at chief minister Ms J. Jayalalithaa’s residence and at the AIADMK party headquarters.
Police said the woman, Ms Tamizhselvi, 32, alias Velayee. was arrested from suburban Maraimalainagar.
Ms Tamizhselvi reportedly confessed to having made the prank call with her husband’s sim card as she was feeling dejected and wanted to take revenge on her estranged husband who had deserted her within three months of their marriage.
On Thursday, she called the 108-control room at the Government Kasturibai Hospital in Triplicane and said that bombs would explode at the Chief Minister's Poes Garden residence in the city.
Police and bomb-detection squad personnel, along with sniffer dogs, made a thorough search and later declared the call a hoax.
Interrogations revealed that the woman had made the call from the mobile number used by her husband Mr Arul Das.
Police traced the number to Cuddalore where the sim card was purchased. A special police team reached Cuddalore and questioned Mr Das who admitted that the number had been used by him earlier but was now being used by his estranged wife living at Maraimalainagar.
Based on the information police arrested Ms Tamizhselvi.
Ms Tamzhilselvi, who has completed her teachers training course, was working part time at a private dispensary when the police apprehended her.
The police initially found it difficult to identify the woman as she looked different from her photograph in which she had a wig, which the cops had taken for real hair.
