'Woman cop looked other way while colleague molested girl'
Two police constables, including a woman, have been accused of looking the other way when their colleague sexually abused a victim of flesh trade.
Constable Vishwavijay Digambar Parab of Mapusa police station molested the 21-year-old girl, who had escaped from a prostitution racket, on August 11. Parab was later suspended from service and arrested.
A high-powered committee, which looks into rehabilitation of victims of flesh trade, has now asked Goa State Women's Commission (GSWC) to conduct an inquiry into the role of two other constables who were present at that time.
Committee members Auda Viegas and Arun Pandey have written to GSWC in this regard. "The girl was molested in the police jeep, right in front of the woman constable, and later outside the police lock-up," the letter says.
According to the girl, she went to Mapusa police station after escaping from a prostitution hub.
However, she was sexually assaulted and illegally detained.
The victim said she was brought to Goa with the promise of a job in casino, but was forced into flesh-trade.
The committee members have pointed out that the victim was kept in the police station for almost 40 hours, and later arrested under Immoral Trafficking Act, for no valid reason.
