Woman booth agent stabbed in Chennai
Four cases of assault, including an incident wherein an AIADMK woman booth agent was stabbed, were reported during the civic polls on Monday in Chennai.
Sources said that Ms Kuttiammal alias Saraswathy, 35, a member of Amma Peravai was on her way to the polling booth in the 111th ward in Asan School, Thousand Lights area, when five men intercepted her and inflicted knife injuries on her head and hands. The men escaped from the spot before she could retaliate.
Ms Kuttiammal lodged a complaint at the Thousand Lights police station claiming the involvement of supporters of DMK candidate Latha Florence.
Following the complaint, the police detained three persons, Mr Stalin Mathew, Mr Kennedy and Mr John. D. Silva. Police sources said that they suspected previous enmity behind the incident. Investigation is on.
In another incident witnessed in the 122th ward at Royapettah, a few unidentified men stabbed DMK division secretary Mr Madhivannan.
Trouble broke out when a few AIADMK men attempted to capture a booth at SIET College in Teynampet. The victim tried to stop them from casting bogus votes as his wife Ms Deepa Devi was a DMK candidate representing the ward. In the melee, he was stabbed on his hand.
Similarly DMDK cadre Mr Raj Kumar of RBI Colony in Chetpet sustained injuries on his head and hands after a few men attacked him when he tried to stop a few ruling party men from damaging the EVMs at 107th ward.
Meanwhile Mr Ramalingam, a PMK booth agent of 98th ward in Ayanavaram lodged a complaint at the CoP’s office alleging that an ACP and an SI of the Secretariat Colony police station had assaulted him without any provocation.
