Wife takes over division charge after Maoist dies
Sujata, a central committee member of outlawed CPI(Maoist), has reportedly taken over the charge of Darbha division of the outfit, active in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar, after the alleged death of Ganesh Uike after a “snake bite” recently, highly placed sources in police headquarters said here on Thursday.
Sujata, a dreaded ultra, is seen with awe among her comrades for her ruthlessness and organisational skills. The woman rebel, a resident of Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh, is believed to have married Ganesh after she shifted her base to Bastar in early 1990s.
She had reportedly been working in close association with Ganesh, who also hailed from Andhra Pradesh, and is considered a good strategist and an effective leader like her husband, a senior intelligence officer told this newspaper.
“A report is in circulation in the Maoist cadres in Bastar that Ganesh died of snake bite on September 1 and his wife Sujata has taken over the charge of Darbha Naxal division. But we are yet to receive any authentic inputs on these developments in Left-wing extremism in Chhattisgarh,” Bastar district superintendent of police P.Sunderaj said.
Sujata allegedly led several high profile Maoist operations, including the June 29 ambush on security personnel at Dhaudhai in Narayanpur district killing 27 CRPF jawans.
“Sujata is highly motivated and ruthless rebel leader and commands respect of the cadres of Darbha division. Her writs runs in entire south Bastar region,” an intelligence officer said while sharing the inputs with this newspaper.
Ganesh had migrated to Bastar from Andhra Pradesh in early eighties following large scale crackdown on the erstwhile People’s War Group (PWG) in that state. He was one of the three leaders (Anna and Ramanna are two other AP leaders) who first created the rebel base in Bastar and later developed the 40,000 sq km forested region as their stronghold.
