Whitewash in K’taka: All 3 ‘porn’ MLAs off the hook
The Karnataka Assembly panel constituted to investigate the “porn film scandal” involving three former BJP ministers — Laxman Savadi, C.C. Patil and Krishna Palemar — has let all three off the hook.
While admitting Mr Savadi did watch video clippings inside the House, the committee said it was not clear if this was a porn video. But as allegations levelled against Mr Savadi were prima facie proved, the panel advised the Speaker to admonish him and warn him not to resort to such acts.
The committee also expressed unhappiness with the electronic media (which telecast the porn film episode), and suggested rules be formulated for the broadcast of House proceedings on the lines of those in Parliament. It also recommended setting up of an ethics committee.
The committee headed by Srishailappa V. Bidarur submitted its report to Speaker K.G. Bopaiah on March 19, and it was tabled in the Assembly on Friday evening. The report said there was no evidence suggesting former minister C.C. Patil had watched porn clippings and that another former minister, Krishna Palemar, was responsible by providing the clippings.
