Whistleblowers targeted: lk
Referring to the cash-for-vote and 2G spectrum allocation scams, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Monday accused the government of putting “whistleblowers” behind bars and protecting its “corrupt ministers”.
Coming out in support of his jailed party members in the cash-for-vote scam, Mr Advani said this is happening despite a bill being introduced in Parliament to protect those who expose scams.
Writing on the issue in his blog, Mr Advani said: “It is indeed shocking to find that the ruling party these days is exerting its utmost to protect corrupt ministers but has no qualms putting whistleblowers behind bars.” Two of the BJP’s ex-MPs and Mr Advani’s former close aide are in judicial custody in the scam.
Recalling the Manmohan Singh Cabinet approval to a bill protecting whistleblowers based on the Law Commission’s report, Mr Advani said: “The bill has not become law as yet. But the Cabinet having approved of it, the government should feel committed to its core principle.”
