West Bengal: EC ropes in stars to create awareness
Celebrities like former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly and popular percussionist Bikram Ghosh will be brand ambassadors for the Election Commission (EC) for the Assembly elections in Bengal.
They will participate in the EC’s campaign to create voters’ awareness in the state.
Earlier, during Assembly elections in Jharkhand and Bihar, the EC had roped in present cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and former president A.P.J Abdul Kalam as brand ambassadors.
The shooting for the ad campaign, titled ‘Your vote, your right, your future’ will begin on March 27. Sourav’s part will be shot at Eden Garden cricket stadium. “Besides television, the message will be also aired on radio and displayed on hoardings.
“The EC will spend `1 crore on this campaign,” joint chief electoral officer Dibyendu Sarkar said. He added that this is the first time that the EC had roped in brand ambassadors.
“We had submitted a list of five personalities as prospective brand ambassadors from which the Commission approved the names of Sourav, Leander Paes and Bikram,” Mr Sarkar said.
