WCD panel seeks CBI probe into Banda rape case
New Delhi: A committee constituted by the Women and Child Development Ministry today sought a CBI probe into the Banda rape case allegedly involving an Uttar Pradesh MLA.
After receiving the report of the panel, WCD Minister Krishna Tirath said she will write to the Union Home Ministry on further action to be taken in the incident.
"The Banda rape case is very sensitive. I had constituted a committee for it, the report of which I have received today. They have asked for a CBI inquiry," Tirath said.
"I will write a letter to the MHA today and after talking to the MHA, I will see what further action can be taken," she added.
The minister remarked that women and children were not safe in the 'jungle raj' of Uttar Pradesh. "He (the MLA) has still not been arrested," she added.
According to the report, a CBI inquiry should be conducted into the incident.
The Uttar Pradesh CB-CID's preliminary report claims that MLA Purushottam Dwivedi raped a teenage Dalit girl. The legislator had then allegedly got the victim put in jail on charges of theft. A case of rape was registered against Dwivedi and his three aides and orders were issued for their arrest in connection yesterday.
