Was this Sachin’s last home Test?
India scripted history when they beat Australia by six wickets in the fourth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Kotla here on Sunday, the third day of the match.
Chasing 155 to ensure a clean sweep — their first-ever in a series of four or more Tests — the home side were seen home by the run-hungry Cheteshwar Pujara (82 not out) and inspirational captain M.S. Dhoni, for whom the series scoreline was redemption of sorts, having led India to a similar defeat Down Under in 2011-12.
The match also marked what is possibly Sachin Tendulkar’s final Test appearance on home soil, as India play their next such game at home only in late 2014, by which time the Maestro will have crossed into his 41st year.
It was only the second time Australia have lost a series by a 0-4 margin, the previous occasion being to South Africa in 1969-70, while for India the verdict was some salve for a long run of Test defeats.
