War of words before battle ends in up
It is the war of words before the war actually ends on Saturday. The BJP, brimming with confidence on Friday, claimed that the Rashtriya Lok Dal would sooner than later join the BJP. State BJP president Surya Pratap Shahi said that the RLD was known to change alliances after elections and would be seen with the BJP again.
The RLD spokesman in Lucknow, Anil Dubey reacted sharply to the statement and said that the Congress-RLD alliance was heading towards a comfortable majority and the BJP’s statement smacked of despair and desperation. “The BJP has been used as a taxi by the BSP thrice in the state and its leaders should measure their words before opening their mouth. The Congress-RLD alliance is rock solid and had done very well in western UP in the sixth phase and will continue its winning streak in the seventh phase too,” he said. Meanwhile, UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi also said that the Congress-RLD alliance had evoked an excellent response from the voters and the positive impact of this would be even more visible in the last phase of elections. She predicted a total rout for the BSP and said that rampant corruption and poor law and order in UP was proving to be the ruling party’s undoing.
“The chief minister’s refusal to move against Naseemuddin Siddiqui proves that she is also involved in the mess and is forced by circumstances to ignore the indictment of the minister by the Lokayukta. She may have dropped 21 ministers by now but she could not gather the courage to file a single FIR against any of them,” she said.
Mr Shahi, meanwhile, gave a new slogan for the final phase of polls. “Tilak, tarazu aur talwar, paltenge Maya sarkar,” he said.
