Visva-Bharati, school authorities meet traumatized girl again
The registrar of the Visva-Bharati university and the principal of Patha Bhavan on Wednesday visited the house of the traumatized girl, who was forced to drink her own urine, and requested her parents that she be allowed to resume her classes.
A day after Visva-Bharati and Patha Bhavan school authorities called up at the house of the girl, the Visva-Bharati Registrar Manimukut Mitra, principal Bodhirupa Sinha and an assistant teacher of the school visited the residence of the girl at Makrampur on the outskirts of Bolpur town in Birbhum district.
They spent around half and hour talking to the student and her parents and requested them to allow their daughter to resume classes.
Manoj Mistry, the father of the girl, said he broke down when the registrar asked them how they were.
"They told me to send my daughter again to Patha Bhavan and promised that they would be vigilant in future so that such incident is not repeated. But my daughter is unwilling to go to that school again and I cannot go against her wish," Mistry said.
Mistry said state higher education minister Bryta Basu had called up on Wednesday, though he did not receive the call, some other member of the family did.
Mistry said the family would be grateful if arrangement was made to admit the girl to some other school and they would apply for that.
He said he had on Tuesday appealed to the Chief Minister and the higher education minister to arrange for a school in view of the fact that it was mid-session.
On Tuesday Sinha, the school's principal, had called up the girl's father as advised by Visva-Bharati Vice-Chancellor Sushanta Dutta Gupta.
