Vindoo, Guru get bail after 2 weeks
After spending almost two weeks in Mumbai crime branch’s lock-up and later in judicial custody, the controversial actor-cum-bookie Vindoo Dara Singh and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) principal Gurunath Meiyappan, were granted bail by a local court on Tuesday. The duo was arrested by the Mumbai crime branch in connection with the IPL betting scandal. The court also granted bail to six more bookies who were arrested by the police.
The son-in-law of BCCI chief N. Srinivasan, Meiyappan and actor Vindoo had on Monday moved bail applications after they were sent to judicial custody till June 14. The court reserved the hearing on the applications for Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, after Meiyappan and Vindoo’s lawyer requested the court to grant bail to their clients arguing that their custodial interrogation was not required, the court granted them bail an six other accused bookies on a bond of `25,000 each, with two additional conditions. The court asked all of them to not leave the country and to report to the crime branch every alternate day. Meiyappan was arrested on May 25.
for his alleged involvement in the IPL betting scandal. His name cropped up in Vindoo’s interrogation, who was arrested on May 22 for his alleged links with bookies. In police custody, Meiyappan admitted to having placed bets through Vindoo.
Both were arrested by Mumbai police on charges of cheating, forgery and fraud. The police probe revealed that Vindoo and Meiyappan were in frequent contact over telephone.
