Vidarbha MPs yet to fight in LS
Vidarbha MPs in the Lok Sabha have yet to take up the issue of a separate state. However, they are active outside Parliament in raising this demand.
While the Congress and the BJP MPs from the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra have been raising this issue ever since the UPA coordination committee and the CWC asked the Centre to “go ahead” in creating a Telangana state by splitting Andhra Pradesh.
Barring the Shiv Sena, no major party — the Congress, BJP and the NCP — is opposing to the demand of bifurcation of Maharashtra.
On Wednesday, Vidarbha MPs, including Union ministers from the region, will be meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue of Central relief to rain and flood-hit people in the region.
Meanwhile, an agency report from Chandrapur said, 25 people have been killed in the devastating floods and heavy rains in the district in the past fortnight, officials said
The district received an average rainfall of 1375.6 mm this monsoon season so far. The heavy rains have affected normal life.
