Viagra a day can keep doc away, says top sexologist
Chennai, Aug. 20: Shattering myths about Viagra, the famed sexologist D. Narayana Reddy remarks, “A day will come when we will say, ‘viagra pill a day will keep the cardiologist away.’”
“After the arrival of viagra in 1998, there has been a sea change in the perception of doctors, where sexual issues are concerned,” Dr Reddy. Unfortunately no medical college here offers courses on sexual medicine or sexology, he complains.
“Viagra has made a huge impact on the society. The medical fraternity’s perception about sexuality has changed.
“The pendulum has swung from one extreme to another — from treating sexual medicine as an ‘unnecessary luxury’ or ‘frivolous’ to considering it a mainstream health issue,” he said adding at least 22 companies are producing same medicine in India.
Dr Reddy, who is the chairman of Council of Sex Education and Parenthood International (CSEPI) and Indian Andropause Society, insists on consulting a qualified professional in the field before taking the pill.
Sex education, has become a public topic; sexual health has become an important part of universal health, Dr Reddy declares.
Over 250 doctors from across India will head to Chennai for the 26th national conference of sexology to be held here between September 3 and 5.
Sex therapist Hani Miletski of USA will inaugurate the workshop and Mr Hemant Apte will be giving a lecture on sexual moralities in the era of globalisation.
