Very High Frequency system to help fisherfolk
Rajahmundry: With the third very high frequency(VHF} system shore station coming into existence from Wednesday, the fisheries department of East Godavari would be able to add one more service in the form of extension of technology development for the safety of fisherfolk who venture into sea for fishing.
This system not only provides information on weather forest but also provides the information on high density spots in deep sea where the sea food availability is more within 40 kilometer radius under its purview.
These two facilities are expected to benefit these sections immensely in the form of safety and in additional income, besides saving fuel and time in search of seafood catch. This technology development is seen as an extended benefit for more than 50,000 fisherfolk living along the 165 kilometre coast in the 96 habitations and villages in the district.
The department, after conducting surveys and with past experience, installed three VHF centres, the first one at Balusutippa in Katrenikona mandal and the second one at Antervedipallipalem in Sakhinetipalli mandal earlier with the third and new addition at Kakinada on Wednesday.
These three stations under the fisheries department guide the fisherfolk with the feedback and monitoring system from International Centre for Oceanic Information System.
