‘Vasectomy forced on Naxal cadre’
In a sensational revelation that threw light on the ugly side of the Maoist movement in India, a commander level leader who surrendered before the Kanker police in Chhattisgarh, on Monday disclosed that the male Naxal cadre have been forced to undergo vasectomy if they opted for marriage to their female comrades.
“If a male cadre wants to marry his female comrade, he has to undergo family planning operation to ensure that his spouse do not bear child. The Maoist leadership fears that if the couples have children then there is every possibility that they may desert cadre and join the mainstream to start a family,” Sunil, alias Rajesh Kumar Matlama, 31, member of the dreaded East Bastar Division Committee (EBDC) and commander of Korar area committee of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) operating in Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, told this newspaper in an exclusive interview, after his surrender before the police.
“I have been forced to undergo vasectomy in 2009 after I decided to marry Jayanti Kurati, a female Naxal leader, functioning under my division,” Sunil, who along with his wife and five others, surrendered before the police shared his plight with this newspaper with downcast eyes.
Among five others who surrendered before the police, two are Maoist couples, while the other is a teenaged woman.
Ironically, the other male Naxal leaders — Ramdas, alias Ramlal Kawde, 24, and Jailal, alias Fagnu Ram Kawde, 25, — who also surrendered, were also forced to undergo family planning operations in the Naxal camps after they decided to lead a married life.
