Valley Pandits included in PM’s job package
In a momentous decision, the J&K government Wednesday extended the Prime Minister’s job package for displaced Kashmiri Pandits to the members of the minority community who chose to stay put in the Valley in spite of it being grasped by separatist violence in 1990s.
The state Cabinet, which met here under the chairmanship of chief minister Omar Abdullah, recommended the proposal for enhancement of package of incentives for funding to the government of India under the Prime Minister’s package for the return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants.
The state’s revenue department was asked to work out an employment package for such of the members of the minority community who did not migrate from the Valley.
Welcoming the decision, the Kashmiri Pandit Sangarish Samiti (KPSS), a representative body of the Valley’s Brahmin Hindu community, said: “We express our gratitude to the chief minister and the state Cabinet for approving the extension of the Prime Minister’s job package to the non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits who stayed back in the Valley and faced all odds with the rest of the society.” It added, “From the day one of the sanction of the PM’s job package, KPSS worked hard to seek extension of the benefit to the left out Kashmiri Pandits living in the Valley and had various meetings with the state and Central authorities at different levels to make this landmark decision happen.”
The samiti also thanked Wajahat Habibullah, chairman, Minority Commission, for his “supportive role”.
