Use of black money greatest challenge during polls: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath on Tuesday described the use of black money as “the greatest challenge in India’s elections today” and said that the Election Commission will take every step to check this malaise in the coming state Assembly elections.
Mr Sampath was addressing a press conference, along with election commissioners H.S. Brahma and Dr Nasim Zaidi, at the end of a marathon two-day review of the preparations for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections later this year. While emphasising that the Election Commission has put in place a mechanism to monitor expenditure by candidates, Mr Sampath said “strenuous efforts shall also be made to identify and tackle paid news, which is “threatening the purity of elections.”
