US, Taliban begin dialogue in Qatar

American officials have held direct talks with Taliban representatives in Qatar, with discussions centred around “trust-building measures” and the release of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay, the New York Times said.
The Taliban team included a former secretary to Taliban leader Mullah Omar and several former officials of the Taliban government in Kabul.
