Uproar in UP House as minister refuses to quit
The refusal of UP minister Avadh Pal Singh Yadav to quit following his involvement in a triple murder case led to a furore in the UP Assembly on Monday forcing a disruption in the proceedings.
The Samajwadi Party raised the issue as a point of propriety during the Zero Hour and when Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar said that he had rejected their notice, SP leaders insisted on speaking on the issue.
Ambica Choudhury of the Samajwadi Party said that the minister had no business to remain present in the House and should have resigned from his post until he was absolved of the charges against him.
Parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Varma retaliated with full force when he accused the Samajwadi Party workers of being directly involved in the triple murder that took place on June 10 in Etah district.
The minister, Avadh Pal Singh, also stood up and started participating in the debate that soon turned into an acrimonious exchange of words. He said that he was innocent and would not resign at any cost. Ambica Choudhury said that the minister had been accused of a cognisable offence and the local court had ordered that a FIR should be registered against the minister and his kin.
“Propriety demands that he should step down from office and return only after he is absolved of all charges,” he said. The SP members shouted slogans against the minister. Irritated at the pandemonium, the parliamentary affairs minister could be heard saying that it was not the responsibility of the government alone to run the house.
