Union Minister Farooq lodges complaint over fake twitter account
âI am the father of all miseries in Kashmirâ, âVijay Mallya called. Sounded depressed about Kingfisher mess, I advised him to approach Soniajiâ, are some of the tweets posted on microblogging website Twitter in the name of Union minister Farooq Abdullah.
The minister lodged a complaint on Saturday under the IT Act with the cyber crime cell of the Delhi police against unknown persons for opening the fake account in his name and posting âsome objectionable, indecorous and intemperate thingsâ on the social networking site.
An official spokesperson of the ministry of new and renewable energy said the minister has never opened any such account nor has he authorised anyone to do it on his behalf. âA complaint in this regard has already been lodged with the Delhi police with the request to initiate immediate investigation in this regard,â the spokesperson said, adding that Dr Abdullah has expressed his anguish at âsuch misuse of social networking sites by unscrupulous elements which are otherwise a boon for spreading information and freedom of expressionâ.
The fake account, which says it is a âparodyâ and also has Dr Abdullahâs picture, became operational in 2011. Interestingly, the account has over 800 followers.
A latest tweet by the unknown account holder in Dr Abdullahâs name describes yoga guru Ramdev as âthe Amrish Puri of Indian politicsâ while another one reads, âPeerzada is not a corrupt minister. He was just helping his idiot son pass the examsâ.
