Unidentified devotee offers 168 diamonds to Lord Venkateshwara
One hundred and sixty-two pieces of diamonds have been offered at the 'hundi' of the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara by a devotee, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials said on Thursday.
The temple 'parakamani (counting)' staff came across the diamonds when they were sorting out the offerings made in the Tirumala Srivari hundi yesterday and immediately informed the matter to the TTD higher-ups, they said.
"The 162 diamonds, offered by an unknown devotee, have been sent to the jewellery section of the TTD treasury in Tirupati for their evaluation," a senior TTD official said, adding that the exact value of the precious stones can be known only after their examination.
Devotees visiting the temple deposit their offerings at the 'hundi' after fulfillment of their vows and the annual income generated from it is estimated to exceed over Rs 700 crore.
