Undertrial, police constable shot dead in moving train
An undertrial and a police constable, who was escorting him, were shot dead allegedly by six unidentified men in a sleeper coach of the Sridham Express in Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh.
Mohit Bharadwaz, a murder accused, was being escorted to Agra Central Jail by three police constables after a hearing on Wednesday in Agra-bound Sridham express, police said. Six men, three of them wearing khaki dress, attacked them near Baad area of Mathura last evening, police said.
Bharadwaz died in the firing on Monday, while, body of one of the constables, Faiz was recovered Tuesday evening, police said. Other two policemen were injured in the incident, police said, adding their rifles were also snatched.
"The body of constable Faiz Mohammad, which mysteriously disappeared after the shooting incident on Monday evening, was recovered this evening at the outskirts of Baad Railway station," DIG Railways Lal Ji Shukla said.
Undertrial Mohit had killed SP leader Shammi Kohili near Kanpur Dehat on March 13 this year, while she was going to Lucknow by a bus, police said. Meanwhile, Anup Srivastava IG Railway Protection Force, Allahabad Zone said security could not be provided on all trains because of their large number.
IG range Bhwash Kumar, SSP SC Bajpai and city SP RP S. Yadav inspected the coach when it arrived at Agra Cantt station on Tuesday evening.
