Ulfa threatens to target outsiders
The anti-talks faction of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom here on Sunday held the Congress and BJP responsible for communal unrest in Assam and threatened to attack non-Assamese populace if alleged atrocities on Assamese people outside the state did not stop. In a statement signed by elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah, the outfit said that 14 Assamese youth have been killed outside the state so far. “If atrocities on Assamese people did not stop we will be forced to target outsiders (Indians) living in Assam,” said the Ulfa statement. The outfit also warned India-based Muslim groups against spreading communal hatred in Assam.
Alleging that the Congress was in league with All-India United Democratic Front, the Ulfa chief charged its president Badaruddin Ajmal of spreading communal hatred by saying Muslims were being killed in Assam. The Ulfa also accused the BJP of spreading communal hatred through its frontal organisation like Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
