U’khand nod to CBI probe into swami death
The issue of Swami Nigamanand’s death is heating up with the Congress putting the BJP’s Uttarakhand government in the dock saying that the Swami was poisioned. While the Congress on Wednesday demanded a
CBI probe into his death, Uttarakhand governor Margaret Alva called for an independent inquiry into the “mysterious” death as the family members of Nigmanand accused the Uttarakhand government of insensitivity towards him.
In a related development, the Uttarakhand government late on Wednesday night recommended a CBI inquiry into the death of Swami Nigamanand, according to an agency report from Dehra Dun.
Nigmanand was on an indefinite fast to save Ganga river and against mining mafias working in the Ganga basin in Hardwar and Rishikesh.
The Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan on Wednesday demanded the CBI probe into the seer’s death.
“Swami Nigamanand was poisoned,” she said.
The Congress party is building a case against t he BJP and the Sangh Parivar saying that they were behind Baba Ramdev’s fast but ignored the fast of Nigmanand against the mining mafias.
The saffron party has been in the dock on the charges that mining mafias are controlling the BJP’s Karnataka governemnt, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s anti minority stand and corruption in the Madhya Pradesh government.
Ms Natrajan asked why the top brass of the BJP remained passive on Nigmananda’s fast? “The action of the Uttarakhand government in ordering a CB, CID enquiry is nothing but a white wash of the incident. The silence of the top BJP leadership and the inaction of the Uttarakhand government allowed this to happen, it speaks volumes,” she said.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand governor Margaret Alva on Wednesday called for an independent inquiry into the “mysterious” death of Swami Nigamanand.
Expressing concern over the reports in print and electronic media and various organisations regarding the death of the swami, Ms Alva said an independent probe should be instituted to ascertain the real situation and do away all suspicions, a release from Raj Bhavan, Dehra Dun said.
The governor has also expressed grief over the Swami’s death who died in a hospital on June 13.
The 36-year-old seer of Hardwar-based Matri Sadan ashram had begun his indefinite fast on February 19 demanding immediate stopping of quarrying in Ganga and shifting of Himalaya stone crusher elsewhere from Kumbh area.
