Two MLAs begin indefinite fast in Nellore
Nellore: YSR Congress Kovur legislator Nallaprerddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy and Venkatagiri Telugu Desam legislator K. Ramakrishna have resorted to indefinite fast protesting against the proposal to divide the state at Kovur and Venkatagiri respectively on Monday.
Speaking to this newspaper over phone from Venkatagiri, Ramakrishna said that he would not relent till the proposal to divide the state is dropped. “Justice should be done to people of all the regions.
Everyone should get their due share if a family is divided and it should be done by consulting all those involved. Unfortunately a unilateral decision was taken by Sonia Gandhi without talking to anyone, to make her son as Prime Minister,” Ramakrishna alleged.
Nellore is a land known for launching successful agitations, Ramakrishna said referring to his fasting while reminding that the agitation and sacrifice by a Nellorian, Sri Potti Sriramulu, led to carving out Andhra Pradesh. He deplored the centre for maintaining silence even when all sections of the people in Seemandhra hit the road demanding to keep the state united.
When asked about the letter given by Telugu Desam in favour of Telangana, he said that the party never suggested division without addressing all the major issues. Before launching the fast, Ramakrishna offered prayers at Sri Kasi Viswanadha Temple and Poleramma temple. Hundreds of TD cadres took part in a rally from Sri Kasi Viswanadha temple.
TD district unit president Beeda Ravichandra, TD Women’s wing district president Anchala Vani, Kavali legislator Beeda Masthan Rao and Dandavolu legislator Prabhakar Rao expressed their solidarity with the fasting MLAs.
