Two killed as building collapses

Two persons were killed when a nearly 50 year-old building at the busy Triplicane area in the city collapsed this morning.

Fire and Rescue Department officials said two persons were rescued from the debris after the collapse. Many teams of rescuers were involved in the operations.

Neighbours alleged that the building owner had not paid heed to their advice to take up repair works.

Earlier, officials faced some difficulty in rescue operations owing to a space crunch in the area. Electricity supply was also snapped in the wake of the collapse.
