TRS chief to put off pro-Telangana rally?
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday hinted that he was open to the idea of postponing the proposed “Million March” scheduled in Hyderabad for March 10.
“A decision to this effect would be taken after consulting the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee members,” Mr Chandrasekhar Rao told mediapersons in New Delhi on Sunday.
The TRS chief said many parents and leaders of pro-Telangana outfits had called for the postponement of the march as it was clashing with inter, CBSE and ICSE exams. “I will consult with JAC members and take a final decision after taking into account the interests of lakhs of students and their careers,” said Mr Chandrasekhar Rao.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police are likely to request owners and managements of malls, showrooms and other commercial establishments to keep their businesses closed in case Telangana activists go ahead with the “Million March” on March 10.
Anticipating a massive disruption of traffic if 10 lakh people take to the roads on the day, the police feel that the law and order situation might be better handled if commercial establishments are closed for the day.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao, meanwhile, accused the Centre of spreading “misinformation” that it would solve the separate statehood issue after the upcoming Assembly elections were over. Stating that this would not work, he demanded that the Centre announce its decision on the formation of a Telangana state in Parliament “immediately”.
“The Congress should make its stand clear on Telangana instead of lobbying with MPs from Telangana region and seeking to postpone the decision till after May,” he said.
