...Tries to inch closer to Naidu
The BJP’s move to be closer to the TDP by opposing any action against its MPs could lead to new alignment ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday opposed any such move after realising that the government managers want them to be suspended from the Lok Sabha for disruptions on the issue of United Andhra.
Although the BJP has been for a separate state of Telangana, it has been on a mission new friends. The TDP, which was formed on the anti-Congress plank, too is looking for new friends which can consolidate the anti-Congress front in Andhra Pradesh.
The TDP had earlier allied with the BJP and got the post of Lok Sabha Speaker during the NDA rule. The BJP sees the AIADMK as its natural ally while the TDP could be brought back to the anti-Congress fold.
BJP election campaign committee chief Narendra Modi had reached out to the TDP in his public meeting in Hyderabad. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu Tuesday parried questions on Mr Modi’s call to him to join hands with non-Congress parties to oust the UPA, according to a PTI report from Hyderabad.
“This is not the occasion to talk on the issue,” he said when reporters referred to Mr Modi’s suggestion that the TDP should follow the legacy of its founder-president N.T. Rama Rao and join forces to make India Congress-free.
