UP transfers another officer

The Akhilesh Yadav government on Tuesday transferred the Gautam Buddha Nagar district mining officer Ashish Kumar to Bulandshahr confirming a clampdown on those officials checking illegal mining in the district.

A PIL was filed on Tuesday in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad HC by social activist Nutan Thakur on the issue of illegal mining and the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal who alleg-edly faced action for checking illegal mining in Greater Noida.
The CM has already defended his decision to suspend the IAS officer and the Uttar Pradesh IAS Association’s demand for revocation of suspension has apparently not had any impact on the state government. SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhury said that the decision regarding the revocation of the officer’s suspension was the prerogative of the CM.
The Akhilesh Yadav government has been facing flak from the Opposition parties for the action against the officer.
