TPC murder: CBI probe not unlikely
With the SIT finding no scientific evidence to establish a “conspiracy” behind the TPC murder, the aggrieved family is left with the sole option of demanding a CBI probe, which the government is likely to concede.
The SIT would have to file the charge-sheet before 90 days from the arrest of those accused in the
case, which is still days away.
As almost the major chunk of the probe is over, the government has granted leave to AIG Anoop Kuruvilla John from July 16 to August 12 to attend a short-term programme at the Stanford University in the US.
SIT chief and ADGP (Crimes) Vinson M. Paul who returned after long leave has convened a meeting of the SIT on Monday to review the progress of the investigation.
Home minister Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan told Deccan Chronicle that even after filing the charge sheet, the investigation into the case would continue.
“Even at this point of time, we have no reluctance to hand over the probe to the CBI. However, the demand should come from TPC’s widow, Rema, who is the most-affected person,” he said.
Rema told DC that she would express her view on the probe once the charge sheet was filed.
If the real conspirators were not framed in the charge sheet, further course of action would be decided, she said.
Police sources said there was little scope to gather any scientificevidence to establish the involvement of more CPM leaders in the conspiracy part of the
case.
