Total closure in BJP-ruled Karnataka
Flights cancelled, trains disrupted, trucks and buses off the roads and shops and educational establishments closed and life screeches to a halt.
The Bharath Bandh on Monday was successful in the state. It was evident the ruling BJP ensured the bandh was a total shutdown as normal life was disrupted. The state
government which on Sunday assured uninterrupted service of transport and essential goods, failed to keep their word on both. And the irony is that Bengalureans had to pay exorbitantly for autorickshaws and eateries during a bandh which was called in the wake of a price rise.
In Bengaluru, office goers and public were left stranded as even autorickshaws were off roads. On Sunday, transport minister R. Ashok had assured that bus services would not be disrupted. But with the first sign of stone pelting, all bus services were scrapped.
The BMTC did start its early morning trips as the minister announced the previous day. However, it had to cancel the trips till 6 pm due to stone pelting incidents. Around 25 buses were damaged in sporadic incidents across the city in the morning. In all places, city BJP party men stopped the buses and pelted stones. In some places police were mute spectators while the protesters pelted stones.
