TN former MLA held for rape, death of Kerala girl
Tamil Nadu police arrested three persons including a former DMK MLA, following the death of Sathya, a 15-year-old student of the Peerumedu Government HSS in Idukki. A postmortem report reportedly found the girl was brutally raped before her death.
The arrested are Rajkumar, former MLA of Peramballur constituency in Tamil Nadu, Anparisan, a member of his personal staff, and Mahindran, his driver. The Peramballur police charged them with non-bailable offences of kidnap, rape and murder.
The Tamil Nadu police took the girl’s parents, Chandran and Susheela, natives of Ladram in Peerumedu, into custody on Thursday.
The two were first asked by the Kerala police to be present at the Kattappana DYSP office for questioning. The Tamil Nadu police then reached there and arrested them.
Sathya died at Theni medical college hospital on July 6.
“It was on the pretext of looking after the daughter of Rajkumar that Sathya was taken to Tamil Nadu.
The girl was allegedly given to the former MLA by middlemen from Peerumedu – Vijayakumar, Panir Selvam and Harikrishnan – said Peerumedu CI Binu, who investigated the case. The police was trying to arrest the men, he told DC.
The CI said it appeared Sathya’s parents had given her for Rs 5,000 to the accomplices of the former MLA on June 21.
Three days after the girl reached Tamil Nadu, she was admitted to the Theni Medical College in a critical stage. After undergoing treatment at various hospitals, she succumbed to her injuries on July 6.
However, when contacted, Kattappana DySP Jijimon who was now investigating the case, told DC that they were yet to get the post mortem report. The former MLA was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police on Thursday night.
