Tirupati temple sells hair, gets Rs61.72 crore
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) have netted a profit of Rs61.72 crore by selling 89.41 tonnes of human hair through an e-auction on Thursday.
As per the instructions of the TTD Joint Executive Officer K.S. Srinivasa Raju, about 1,88.491 tonnes of human hair including second, third, fourth, fifth and grey hair varieties had been put up for e-auction, out of which 89,413 tonnes went for bidding.
The e-auction fetched Rs2.11 lakh more than what was earned through previous biddings by the TTD.
Out of 39,688 kilos of second variety human hair stock (16 to 30inches) put for e-Auction, 28,700 kilos of human hair stocks has been bid fetching an amount of Rs.53.54cr at a bidding price of Rs.18,700 per kilo.
The third variety human hair (10 to 15inches) out of 19,591 kilos about 8,300kilos stocks was bid earning a profit of Rs.6.18cr at bidding price of Rs.7,450 each kilo.
For fourth variety of human hair stock (5 to 9inches in size) a total stock of 1717kilos which was put for bid was totally sold out at a bidding price of Rs.5,450 per kilo fetching Rs.93.57lakhs.
The fifth variety whose size less than five inches, of 1,26,799kilos about 50thousand kilos (Rs.80per kilo) has been bid procuring Rs.40lakhs to TTD while the grey hair fetched Rs.65.18lakhs with a total stock of 696 kilos going for bid at Rs.9,365 per kilo.
Interestingly, TTD gained an excess amount of Rs.2,11,276 in the present bid when compared to last bid (without first variety of hair going for bid).
