Three held for forcing tribal woman to strip

Three men were detained on Wednesday for molesting and forcing a tribal woman in a Rajasthan village to strip to save her husband's life, police said.

The incident took place on March 13 in Nathpura village near Kushalgarh town of Barmer district, about 440 km from here. Following a dispute, some men barged into the home where the couple was staying and started beating up the husband, even threatening to kill him, police said.

They told the woman that his life would be spared if she stripped before them. The woman said she was also molested, officials said.

The man, who filed a police complaint on Tuesday, said had gone to his wife's village to attend a function where a dispute arose.

Police raided the village after the complaint and detained at least three men.

"They are being interrogated and will be arrested only after through investigation. We are recording statements of the other villagers who participated in the function to verify the claims made in the complaint," an official said.
